Nice tool to switch agent without changing browser: User Agent Switcher
Still building my virtual workspace. This time, I am looking for on line storage where I can store all my bibliography in pdf. I just need 3 to 4 Gb and a free account.
I found a review on the web and try some of the service listed.
- My first try was mediamax. Actually they offer 25 Gb for free. Pretty easy to open an account but I was unable to upload any files. First I can’t install their software and then the online upload (using java) is giving me some troubles. Some it worked with warning and errors from the browser and some time it didn’t. The time is worked, the upload was extremely fast.
- Then I went for xdrive.com . I had some trouble registering. Actually you need to open a free AOL account to acces xdrive. Since I really don’t need another yahoo-like account, I gave up. But then I couldn’t close my account. Anyway upload is easy and fast (the speed is limited by my side of the connection)
- Now I am trying esnip. Registration is very fast and smooth. So far, online uploading is ok but it is really slow.
I am still fighting with my huge library of pdf files. Since last post on this issue, I took a closer look to on-line reference managers. The biggest on the market are citeulike or connotea. The idea was to collect bibliographical data from the web instead of opening each of my pdf files. But still with these tools, you need a lot of typing when adding a reference. Also it seems that the abstract is lost when the reference is transfered to/from connotea (in RIS format). This is not the case for citeulike.
